FAQs

frequently asked questions

Are your muffins gluten-free?

Our muffins are Certified Gluten-Free by the Celiac Support Association Recognition Seal Program, the first program in the United States to recognize companies that meet the strictest criteria of gluten-free --i.e. free of the toxic amino acid sequences in wheat, barley, rye and common oats, as well as their crosses and derivatives. The CSA certification is designed exclusively for products which are appropriate for a medically prescribed celiac diet.

Do the muffins freeze well?

Our muffins freeze wonderfully! Put the muffins in a tightly sealed ziploc bag and freeze for up to one year.  A ziploc bag is the best insurance against freezer burn and funky freezer smells infiltrating your muffins.  When you take a muffin out of the freezer, let it thaw in the fridge overnight OR microwave for 45-60 sec OR bake in a 225 degree oven for 10-15 minutes. Some of our customers take a frozen muffin to work, or put a frozen muffin in their child's lunchbox, and by lunchtime, their muffin has thawed!

What is the shelf-life of your muffins?

Our muffins have no preservatives and are made with REAL food, and lets be honest, real food molds or ferments over time.  So we recommend refrigerating the muffins immediately and eating them within 7 days.  Any muffins that you know will not be eaten within the next couple days should be frozen as soon as possible in a ziploc bag.

Are your ingredients locally sourced?

Our almond meal and almond butter are sourced from nearby farms in Modesto, CA and our dates come from Desert Valley, east of Los Angeles.

Do you ship your muffins?

We are currently testing this process, although it seems for now to be prohibitively expensive. The muffins need to be packed with ice packs, insulated, and shipped overnight to guarantee freshness. If you really want muffins shipped just give us a call, but we recommend ordering a large amount to make it worth the shipping, which can cost $80 to ship.

What kind of chocolate chips do you use?

We use Enjoy Life chocolate chips, a 69% cacao, soy-free chip that contains only chocolate and cane sugar. It was important to us that we use a dark chocolate chip without soy lecithin, dextrose, or other additives.

Where can I find the nutrition information for your muffins?

Click on the MUFFINS tab and select the flavor of your choice. Click on either link to the nutrition info for either the smaller 4-Pack muffins sold in grocery stores or the larger single muffins sold in cafes.
